As his ministry begins, Jesus’ identity as the Son of God is tested in the wilderness. Where humanity has failed to resist temptation, Jesus remains faithful. Like him, we are invited to depend on God and use Scripture to stand firm.

God rescues Israel out of slavery in Egypt and led them on a journey through the wilderness toward the Promised Land. How does God lead us today?

Moses lived in the wilderness for forty years among the Midianites. During this time, God transformed and prepared him for the task ahead - freeing his people from Egypt.

For Lent, we will reflect on biblical stories of people who journeyed through the wilderness—a place that symbolizes hardship and struggle. After experiencing mistreatment and oppression, Hagar encountered God in the wilderness. There, she gave God the name “El Roi,” meaning “the God who sees me.”
